  1. Hi Helen,

I wanted to write to say thank you once again. Your article from the Ottawa Citizen has been an incredible tool in dozens of cases for me. I have used it to explain Trans many times. I find that someone can read that article in 5 or 10 minutes and be half an hour further into the Trans conversation.

I was recently up near North Bay on business and stopped at a Funeral Home where I have known the director for a long time and consider him a friend. I told him about Amanda and then e-mailed your article to him. He was very supportive at the time but what followed has made me truly appreciate the friends I have. He shared the article with one of his staff whom I have also known for a long time though not well enough to feel close to. The following day she sent me this message:

    Hi Paul!

I’m sorry I missed your visit! David shared the Ottawa Citizen article and your news with me. I have to say I am so impressed!! It takes a great deal of bravery to share with your family and community. Kudos to you!!

    All the very best!!

P.S. Amanda is gorgeous!! A fabulous smile and I absolutely love her hair!

Then about two weeks later the following message arrived by text out of the blue:

Hey Amanda:. Just letting you know that you’re my buddy as well. :-)) Davey O

How lucky am I??? I am so fortunate to have friends like this. And so glad I met you.

    • Hi Amanda,

Your words have touched me very deeply. Thank you for taking the time to write to me to let me know about the impact this story has had on your life. It’s wonderful to know that you have been able to parlay the article into a tool that educates and informs. I thank you for entrusting me with honour of writing your precious story.

      Warmest regards,

  2. Your article “THE FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL” on treatment of a premature baby was excellent. You might a some time do a follow on item on reasons for premature birth. It is suspected that the baby is responsible for many premature births, releasing a hormone to cause labor when for some reason the baby is not getting adequate nourishment from its mother via her placenta.

  3. Thank you for your wonderful feature article on Villa Maria. I read it all … the main story, the sidebar about the ghosts, the sidebar about boarding at Villa Maria and the sidebar with the daily schedule during the 19th century.
I worked in the newsroom of The Gazette as a clerk for thirty-nine years … from August of 1968 to early retirement at the end of 2007.
